I have been a client of Fit 4 Life for two years and have gained strength and lost inches. I can now wear clothes that were too tight when I weighed 30 pounds more than I do now. Fiona and the other trainers are great to work with, challenge you every time and are very encouraging.

What Makes Fit 4 Life Synergy Centers so Special?

At Fit 4 Life Synergy Centers, we incorporate a very unique complete health and fitness regimen called the "Synergy System." This technique is the safest, most effective training method available today. Research has shown that this type of training provides the most dramatic results in the shortest amount of time with the least injuries.

What is the Synergy System?

There are two parts to the Synergy System that make it so unique The first component is the extremely slow movement involved. The traditional method advocated in most health clubs is the 2/4 protocol. What this means is that it should take you two seconds to push the weight out (positive phase) and four seconds to bring the weight back (negative phase). For the Synergy System we promote the use of a 10/10 protocol. This means that it should take a person ten seconds for the positive phase of the movement and another ten seconds for the negative phase. It is a very slow and controlled movement which provides the safest, most effective workout possible. This eliminates momentum, which causes injuries, and fatigues the muscles completely for optimal muscular growth and development.

The second component of our unique system is the amount of time required to complete a full body workout. Our system, from start to finish, takes no more than 20 – 30 minutes, 2 days a week, with at least 48 hours rest in between workouts. How are we able to accomplish this and why is that so beneficial? During your workout you will work every major muscle group in the body to complete muscular exhaustion. You will perform one set of 4 – 12 repetitions using perfect form, described above. In traditional workouts, you would perform 2 – 3 sets of 8 – 12 repetitions at a much faster pace which makes you susceptible to injury. It has been found, through extensive research, that one set of each exercise, to complete muscular exhaustion twice a week is far better than 3 sets of each exercise, 3 days a week.

One Set Wonder

Let’s look at this in more depth. The research was conducted using three groups. The first group worked out once a week, the second worked out three times a week, and the third worked out twice a week. The researchers were astounded at the results. The study group who worked out twice a week had the best results with an average muscle gain of 2.5 pounds in an eight week period. Even more amazing, the group who only worked out once a week had results almost as good as those who worked out twice a week and far better than those who worked out three times a week. More is not necessarily better when it comes to working out. They found that your muscles, when worked properly (using our slow, controlled method) on proper equipment (MedX), need sufficient rest and rebuilding time to grow stronger. The group that worked out three or more times per week were not giving their muscles ample rest in order to rebuild stronger. With the Synergy System’s slow, controlled movement, your muscles are taken to complete fatigue and subsequently given enough rest in between workouts to build stronger. More lean muscle mass equals more calories burned per day!

To summarize, we use a completely research based program which yields remarkable results with very minimal time commitment. With only two, twenty to thirty minute workouts per week you can expect to have the body of your dreams and be Fit 4 LIFE!

By participating in the programs at Fit 4 Life Synergy Centers, you can expect to reduce your resting heart rate, reduce your blood pressure, reduce your cholesterol and increase your endurance.

How?

When you strength train properly, as you do at Fit 4 Life, you are working your muscles to complete fatigue, or what we call muscular failure. A muscle fails because it was not being supplied with enough nutrients and oxygen to continue working and maintain its strength. The cardiovascular system is responsible for supplying nutrients and oxygen to the muscles. So, when a muscle fails, it means that the cardiovascular system was unable to keep up with the demand the muscles were putting on it. Therefore, the cardiovascular system was worked to its maximum potential in a safe, controlled environment.

When you take minimal rest between machines, as you do at Fit 4 Life, you are able to keep your heart rate at a high level throughout the entire workout. Due to this fact, you are achieving the same benefits, particularly the cardiovascular improvements, that would result from participating in traditional aerobics.

Drawbacks of Traditional Aerobic Activity

Although aerobic activity does offer some tremendous health benefits, it also can be very harmful to your body. Let’s take running for example. Running offers tremendous cardiovascular benefits, but it also is very jarring to your joints, particularly your knees, hips and lower back. For a 150 pound person who is running at 6 mph they would be putting approximately 900 pounds of force on their joints every time their foot hits the ground. That’s quite a price for your joints to pay just so your cardiovascular system gets in great shape. So, in essence, you will have a great heart and lungs but you won’t be able to walk when you’re 70! What a tradeoff. At Fit 4 Life, that same person could have 200 pounds on the Leg Press machine and the force they would be putting on their joints would be approximately 200 pounds because the movement is so slow and controlled. This means you can get remarkable cardiovascular benefits, just like running, but putting 88% less stress on your joints. Wow! What a difference!
